They have an a insanely huge production budget, all the resources they could ever need, a massive hit show, and they hang it all on 2 hack writers, and cram through the source material as fast as possible, skipping content for flashy moments.

This is exactly why Hollywood is such a shitshow.
When GoT tries to be a novel, it's at it's worst, when it tries to be a television show, it's at it's best. The writers didn't skip too much source material, they didn't skip enough source material. That's GoT's biggest problem, and making the show more like the source material would exacerbate that problem. That and they miscast Jon Snow, Kit Harrington has no charisma, which makes it a lot harder to care as much about that character as the writers wish we would.

Episodes matter. Fuck this 73 hour movie bullshit. When GoT remembers this, it's at its best, when GoT forgets that, the show drags, it's less compelling, there is way too much traveling from point A to point B, jumping from character to character, episodes can blur together without a big spectacle to properly differentiate them.

Make Episodes Great Again, that's what GoT needs to keep in mind. Game of Thrones is a television show, not a really long movie, and certainly not a novel. If you prefer the Song of Ice and Fire novels to Game of Thrones the television show, then read the novels instead, don't ruin the TV show by trying to make it more like the novel and less like a television show, that makes no sense.

The novels should maximize the use of their medium to tell the best possible story, and television show should maximize the use of their medium to tell the best possible story, telling the same story in both mediums will hurt one medium at the expense of the other.

I do, actually. He's the perfect embodiment of the character - EXCEPT that he should have blond hair, being a Targaryan.

He's stoic, pensive, but gives the appearance of absolute openness and integrity - exactly what a Stark Lord should look like. In fact, he looks much more the part than Arya or Brandon.

Also - how the hell does Maise Williams still look 14 years old?!?

He has no charisma. Being stoic isn't charismatic, he's boring and you know it, a better actor would make that character far more interesting. Doing a Ned Stark impression isn't good acting, that's the easy part.

A Game of Thrones is a novel. Game of Thrones is a television show. The novel doesn't try and sacrifice it's quality to make for a better television show, so why should the television show sacrifice it's quality to make for a better novel? That makes no sense, the tv show isn't a novel, why should it front like it is? You have to adapt the source material, or the show would be terrible, that's what happens when you switch mediums.

You're just in denial about it, because you are looking for a reason why you don't like the show as much as you used to, but you can't come up with a good reason, so you've grasped at the "it doesn't faithfully follow all the source material" straw because other book snobs who hate on the show grasp at that straw to, and you mistakenly think that puts in good company.

"Here's one of the best-selling novels of all time. We need to feed this shit into a blender, and spit out a neutered tv show with the same name!!"

I'm not saying he needs an Emmy for it. But he fits the role perfectly. It's exactly the way that I'd want him to be.
