Just watching some video of Patty Marleau last year, holy shit, dude, did you see him score four goals in one period?! I mean, yeah, it was in Colorado, but still, did you see that first goal?! Whaaat?!
He's 37 years young, this guy's like Teemu!

If it's against the Avs last season, then it doesn't count. Every player under the sun tore us a new asshole last year. It was comical really, even as a fan of the team, being that bad was just damn funny. Everyone looks like Gretzky against the Avs and I am barely even embellishing for comedic effect. Hell if there was one team where Marleau played well against in the playoffs consistently throughout his career, it was the Avs. At least he didn't choke in playoffs playing our shitty teams.Smitty-48 wrote:I mean, yeah, it was in Colorado, but still, did you see that first goal?! Oh, it counts, it's the NHL, it's four goals, in one period, at 37 years of age, you think Wayne Gretzky didn't beat up on weak teams? Counts, muthafuckah,
More importantly tho, doesn't look like he's slowed down much, which is amazing for a guy who is built like a linebacker, don't know about year three, but right now, he still looks hella fast.

He used to be one of the fastest players in the league, he's not that anymore. Still the longevity and durability are the most impressive things about the man, can't take that away from him. Also back in the day, he made a really dope player for Franchise mode, back in like 2005, that speed and size made him like the ideal video game hockey player early on in his career.

And that's the West, in the heavy skating division, now he's coming to the Atlantic, methinks he will feast on the East, doesn't even need to be that fast, to beat up on Eastern Conference teams, the Leafs are crazy fast, but they don't even need to be.

He's still 37 bro. I'm sure his size will give the East fits at times, and he's still fast for the age and the size, but he's still slowing down and that process is only going speed up going forward, not slow down. Playing with Matthews is what will give him a career renaissance, IF he has one, and if he does he'll have to do it while he continues to degenerate physically.Smitty-48 wrote:And that's the West, in the heavy skating division, now he's coming to the Atlantic, methinks he will feast on the East.

He's looking like Teemu Salanne at 37 tho, he's not looking like your average 37 in the NHL bro, I was expecting him to look slower, but he looks pretty fast, is he fast as Nazem Kadri? About that fast actually, it's not like Naz is a speed demon, but Marleau is looking plenty fast enough, and as long as he has wheels, I think he will feast in the East, he's going from the strongest division in hockey to the weakest, only Tampa Bay can really skate with the Leafs.StCapps wrote:He's still 37 bro. Teemu at 37, wasn't Teemu at 25.
Jagr at 37, wasn't Jagr at 25.
Howe at 37, wasn't Howe at 25.
Chelios at 37, wasn't Chelios at 25.
Marleau at 37, isn't Marleau at 25.
Even with these guys, longevity has it's limits. Age matters, it's sports.

I already said Marleau is fast for his age and his size, but he's still very clearly lost a step, and he's not getting any faster. Like I said Marleau used to be one of the fastest players in the NHL period, but it's not 2005 anymore.

Sure, but I"m factoring in the age, I'm not banking on 30 goals in year three, I'm just looking to this year and next, but Pete DeBoer was limiting his powerplay time, put Patty on a PP with Matty, Willy, Naz, and Mo? I think he can score 25 again.

I could see that. Like I said, regular season isn't his issue, plus longevity and durability are his calling cards. I wouldn't worry about his regular season production, you can probably rest easy on that, at least for next year anyway, even at 37.Smitty-48 wrote:Sure, but I"m factoring in the age, I'm not banking on 30 goals in year three, I'm just looking to this year and next, but Pete DeBoer was limiting his powerplay time, put Patty on a PP with Matty, Willy, Naz, and Mo?
