Re: The, "All Things English" thread
The entire Mediterranean theater is a British diversion.
Churchill is roping America into fighting in North Africa and Italy why again? To liberate Europe?
Not at all. Churchill is fighting for India and the Far East through Suez.
Churchill has talked FDR out of doing what the American generals want to do, which is to go straight to Berlin.
Instead, Churchill invents this fabrication of the Soft Underbelly of Europe.
In order to cover for the fact that the Med is actually about Suez, nor France.
It's not a soft underbelly at all, it's a brutal slog, but for the British, this is the main event, this is the British war.

This is the real reason the British and French declared war on Germany when they did.
It was never about Poland.
Mussolini was the original opponent.
He was the one who was threatening Suez.
At first Hitler and Mussolini were rivals and so Hitler was actually an ally of convenience against the Italian threat.
When Hitler flipped and the Axis emerges, suddenly Germany has joined with Italy in threatening Suez.
That is when Britain and France resolved to go to war with Germany, Poland was simply a rubric.
India, Indochina and the Far East, through Suez; was the underlying strategic imperative for the war.

"But only the Germans were bad! Britain and France were fighting for freedom and to save Europe from Hitler!", is simply the winners writing the history effect, has nothing to do with what actually happened.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2019 8:59 pmThis is the real reason the British and French declared war on Germany when they did.

And Stalin saw this coming, which is why he hung back that extra week before joining the Germans in Poland, so that the British, French and Germans would go to war, while the Soviets dodged it and let them bleed themselves on a Western Front again, at which point Stalin would launch his massive invasion of Germany from his launch pad in Poland.StCapps wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2019 9:05 pm"But only the Germans were bad! Don't worry NukeDoggyDogg, we got your back, we won't let the winners of the war falsely frame history to their own benefit, without lighting that shit up. Fuck their pro-Churchill propaganda and the horse it rode in on.

Winston Churchill has no chin, a few good strikes, and his reputation crumbles. Don't lionize that glass jawed faggot, or you gonna get a fact based beatdown.

On the one hand he's the Lion of the British Empire.
On the other hand he's the one who incited its downfall at the Somme too.
Which is why he wanted a do over.
It's Churchill War One and Churchill War Two.
The Wars of British Hegemonic Succession.

Well it's all in the end redeemed by America prevailing overall.
The American industrial juggernaut takes control of everything, including the British and French Empires.
And everything would have been hunky dory ever after.
That is if De Gaulle hadn't roped America into re-installing the French as the colonial overlords of Indochina.
With the help of the British, who even enlisted the Japanese prisoners of war to assist, against the Vietnamese.
Dien Bien Phu on you, America.
Domino, muthahfuckahs.
