You have your speculation but this was the film that people have already fallen in love with it, even though you may have a problem with it. Personally, I don't but I do know that it hit the same beats as ANH, but then again, I feel that the Prequels were so bad that they had to do something safe like this if they want to continue making Star Wars.
You think it does not make a profit if it's not in the OT era?
Nobody dislikes the prequels because of the setting, if that's what you're implying. They're horrible pieces of cinema, and completely out of sync with the rest of the series.

There is so much wrong with the Prequels I honestly just can't type them all here but here is a video that you all should like:

No i just mean that if Harrison and co were dead and they would pick a new era it would still make a profit.

Possibly. But I think it was critical for the series to link back up to the OT. This was a very public 'apology' for the prequel shitshow, and necessary to hit all the old notes, in order to bring the old fanbase back in. The next few movies might break the formula - and I hope they do - but this was absolutely what they needed to do, or fans would walk en masse.

Luke will have a Huge part in VIII and perhaps a lesser one in IX. After that none of the originals will be back, not even R2D2 or C3PO
There is a time for good men to do bad things.

For fuck sake, 1984 is NOT an instruction manual!

They know what the fuck a lightsaber is and it's the number 1 global brand, they would have came back. They just played it ubersafe.

It makes sense for them to use the OT's heroes right now. Luke's arc is almost complete and when it is he will not longer be used in future movies. I'm guessing he survives IX but when Disney decides to to X, XI, and XII there will be a large time gap between IX and X. Luke will have died and at the most will be a force ghost but I doubt that.

Anyone watch Logan?

It wasn't bad... but I've heard folks raving about it... I think it tried to be more than "just" a comic book movie and kind of half accomplished what it set out to...

Sometimes good... plenty of cringey.

I have seen and I think it's a good movie. I mean it's not close to the really great movies, but still, it's a good movie and it's also Hugh Jackman's swan song to the X-Men franchised. What I liked, and what others liked, was that it only focused on 3 main characters and then it becomes a road trip-western-esque movie (yes, the movie borrows a lot of its imagery and themes from Westerns, like Shane).
