Re: The Chapel
So I was wondering...
Am I a Theist?
Do I believe in something greater that connects all of us and holds the truth about right relationship with ourselves, others and the greater world?
yes
Do I believe that individuals can glean knowledge about this "something" through spiritual experiences?
yes
Do I believe that we can connect with a divine spark within us that grants capacity for joy, forgiveness and compassion?
yes
Do I believe that Jesus was a prophet who had true divine insight into this "something greater"?
yes
Do I believe in all of the dogma of the Catholic Church, or any other Religious Institution?
Not that I know of.
I also believe that the Buddha and various other Yogic and Daoist mystics had true insights... maybe even Sufis... although I know less about these guys.

Re: The Chapel
A lot of people think too highly of their intellect, and assume they've got this and can figure it out on their own. News flash: you are no Thomas Aquinas or Jean Paul Sartre. I am pretty sure you don't try to figure out general relativity on your own instead of just trying to learn what Einstein already figured out. But somehow when it comes to philosophy and theology, everybody thinks they are the greatest intellect to walk the Earth.
The arguments are already there and have been made. You just have to read them. You are not likely going to come up with something that has not already been argued by better minds before. I am not saying you shouldn't ponder these issues (you should), but consider reading what has already been said and choosing a side.
Go read Teilhard's Phenomenon of Man and then read Nietzsche's Genealogy of Morals. Read some of Acuinas' Summa and then crack open Sartre's Being and Nothingness.
