Re: NHL 2017 -Official Discussion Thread
Pierre LeBrun says Poile is in hard on Duchene, but Sakic is asking one of the Preds top four D, Poile is balking at that, also says Sakic wanted Sergachev for Duchene out of Montreal, but Montreal went for Drouin > Duchene instead. Lebrun also say he thinks the problem in COL is ownership, "they don't care about the team", so sounds like what I said; Matt Duchene for who? Don't care, if it's making money, great, if not, tax write off.
On the Leafs, LeBrun says Lamoriello willing to make deal for D but not willing to overpay, will wait as long as it takes for a deal that makes sense, otherwise they're prepared to go into next season with what they have rather than blow the Shanaplan up.

Marc Methot to Dallas, for G prospect Dylan Ferguson, and a 2nd in 2020? Now that's more reasonable, and Methot is a better D than Hamonic, albeit, in fairness to Calgary, much older, none the less, prices seem to be falling a bit here.

8 years and $13.25 million a year for Conor McDavid? Welcome to cap hell Edmonton. Talk about not taking a discount to help the team win a championship, he certainly isn't doing Edmonton any favors.
Fuck you, Pay me.
Plus they still got to pay Draisaitl.

Still not as bad as the TJ Oshie contract. McDavid and Draisaitl will get their cash, otherwise they'll get offer sheeted, the real bad contracts in Edmonton are Lucic at $6 million for 6 more years, Nugent-Hopkins at $6 million for 4 more years, and Benoit Puliot at $4 million for 2 more year, there's three very replacaable players, making $16 million right there.

Oshie's contract might be a little high but it's not as bad as McDavid's. Oshie's should be $4.5 million per year and McDavid's should be $10 million per year.Smitty-48 wrote:Still not as bad as the TJ Oshie contract. McDavid is entering his prime, he's the franchise, and again, Edmonton had no choice, McDavid would get offer sheeted, Oshie on the otherhand, is 30, a complimentary player, and he's also signed for the next 8 years, of which maybe 2 of those years will be productive and then the wheels are likely to fall off, could even fall off next year, whereas McDavid's $13 million for 90-100 pts? Oshie ia being paid the same by the point, McDavid is two Oshie's worth of production, except McDavid can keep it up for the duration of the contract, TJ Oshie not so much.

Edmonton has no choice, unless McDavid wanted to take a discount to improve his chances of winning in Edmonton and he doesn't. Too bad they signed Lucic, Nugent-Hopkins and Pouliot to such shitty contracts, they could sure use that space come next year. I wonder how much Draisaitl will get considering how much McDavid is about to get? It'll be damn pricey, whatever it is. Welcome to cap troubles Edmo, you won't be leaving anytime soon.Smitty-48 wrote:McDavid is entering his prime, he's the franchise, and again, Edmonton had no choice, McDavid would get offer sheeted, Oshie on the otherhand, is 30, a complimentary player, and he's also signed for the next 8 years, of which maybe 2 of those years will be productive and then the wheels are likely to fall off, could even fall off next year, whereas McDavid's $13 million for 90-100 pts? Indeed, the problem is not so much signing their franchise superstars, it's all the other dumb contracts they signed, this is why I want to Leafs to just stand pat and not do anything right now, sign your franchise superstars, no choice, but everything else should be drafted and coming up through your pipeline on ELC's in a self replenishing development system.

The Oilers tried to sign McDavid on the cheap in my NHL franchise mode and I offer sheeted the fuck out of him and they didn't match for some god forsaken reason. Now he makes less than $8 million a year playing for the Leafs, scored 130 points last year, and he's won 4 Stanley Cups in a row. It's a good thing the Oilers aren't that dumb in real life.Smitty-48 wrote:Indeed, the problem is not so much signing their franchise superstars, it's all the other dumb contracts they signed, this is why I want to Leafs to just stand pat and not do anything right now,
