Depends on what you're doing in Saltwater. If you're soaking bait, then yeah. Throwing plugs for Stripers? That shit can add up. Pencil poppers used to be like 4-5 bucks (I think in the 70s-80s); nowadays, they're $25 minimum. It's absurd.Speaker to Animals wrote:Most of that stuff is cheap, and as long as you are surf fishing, the very best bait available is free for the taking (sand fleas). A lot of that looks like fresh water gear to me too. I was never big on fresh water fishing, and I only recognize that type of thing from lake fisherman (especially the rubber worms for bass).
Salt water fishing is potentially way, way more affordable.

Oh, yeah. You could also spend a fortune. I am just saying that -- at the bottom end -- salt water fishing is cheaper. You can get by with just a net, really, which you can make yourself from mason line if needs be.

Thought you said you were fishing salt? What are you doing with all that pussy crappie gear?Nukedog wrote:I'm trying to get into both. I found this though and it seems better. Really I just need a tackle box. 35 dollhairs and bass lures mostly by the looks of it. The box itself would run at least 35. REALLY REALLY WANT THIS DONT TALK SHIT

Don't buy a full tackle box; buy an empty tackle box and fill it with stuff you use. Whatever you do, don't carry that thing around with you.

Look at this dumb faggot catching all kinds of bait with his bait net. High tide, nightfall, lots of mosquitos. Catch the ripples or shine a light and throw the net on the fuckers. Going to ice em down and throw some salt on them and cut em up tmrw

I am glad you are doing it the right way by catching the bait yourself. You don't need those giant tackle boxes. Those things look gay as shit and I only ever see them used by tourists or sometimes freshwater guys. A salt life guy needs only a few things to make it rain fish, and the best bait is free anyway. You don't even need expensive kit at all, really.
The old black dudes where I grew up were master freshwater fisherman, and I swear they didn't use much of anything. They could make a cane pole and fashion a hook with a piece of metal. They knew how to lure worms up out of the ground themselves, or to get different kinds of bugs from certain trees to catch specific fish.

Hmm. I wanted to learn all the different lures though. But it's ok. I'm not buying those kits.
