I get it Weber has a better shot. He can't skate as well and Subban makes a better pairing with Eckholm than Weber. PK did better in that playoff run than Weber likely would have and resultantly Nashville's defense has never looked better.Smitty-48 wrote:Fake news, all those powerplays in game six, Subban doing his Subby-do routine, if the Big Nasty had been shooting from the point, Flashville would have won that game.

If the $7.8 million cap hit down the last five years of the Weber contract is not an issue, you take Weber over Subban, all day, just like Babcock and Team Canada, Subban the Clown can't even make the team, the Big Nasty is a lock.

That was four years ago, and the only reason you would is because Canada has lots of good right handed puck movers, and less depth at the right handed big nasty. PK is the better player these days, and moving forward, Weber is just a better stylistic fit on Team Canada, hence his higher position on the depth chart, especially four years ago. PK has gotten a lot better since then, Weber is now on the wrong side of 30.Smitty-48 wrote:If the $7.8 million cap hit down the last five years of the Weber contract is not an issue, you take Weber over Subban, all day, just like Babcock and Team Canada, Subban the Clown can't even make the team, the Big Nasty is a lock.

No, that was this year, World Cup Team Canada; a $9 million dollar "Norris Trophy Winning Defencemen" can't even make the team, in the bottom 4 parings. The Big Nasty; Alternate Captain, top four with a lock.
Weber will be fine for the next four or five years, it's only beyond 36 where that cap hit is going to come crashing down on the Habs. Some players age out quickly after 30, but not Weber, he's a superman, there are exceptions, Subban is actually declining faster than Weber, Subban is a joke right now, Lavie doesn't even want him on the team I bet. Nashville should prolly retain salary and just get rid of him now, I'd take him on the Leafs at a discount, but I don't think Babcock would have him.

That was at the beginning of the year though and like I said Weber is the better stylistic fit with Canada having so many great right handed puck movers. Clearly the Gimmick Cup snubbing lit a fire under his ass judging by that playoff performance. He did puss out against Crosby though, with the non-retaliation to getting his face rubbed in the ice, that was pretty lame, something tells me Weber would have taken that differently.....Smitty-48 wrote:No, that was this year, World Cup Team Canada; a $9 million dollar "Norris Trophy Winning Defencemen" can't even make the team, in the bottom 4 parings. Subban has been a big bust in Flashville, lost his job to Ryan Ellis, when Ryan Ellis is your 2D and the "Norris Trophy Winner" is your 4D, that's a sign that Lavie has no time for Subban's shenanigans and freelancing to nowhere, anymore than Babcock does, I bet you right now that Nashville is trying to move Subban.StCapps wrote:That was at the beginning of the year though and like I said Weber is the better stylistic fit with Canada having so many great right handed puck movers. Clearly the parings that would make more sense, would be Josi-Subban, Eckholm-Ellis, but PK simply couldn't do the job, he was in effect; fired.

Lies. Subban and Eckholm faced all the tough matchups in the playoffs, Laviolette trusted them as his shut down pairing. Josi might get more ice time by like 30 seconds a game than those two in the playoffs, but him and Ellis are getting the easier defensive assignments. Ellis saw the least ice time of the big four, Subban saw the second most ice time of that group. You sir are the fake news.Smitty-48 wrote:Subban has been a big bust in Flashville, lost his job to Ryan Ellis, when Ryan Ellis is your 2D and the "Norris Trophy Winner" is your 4D, that's a sign that Lavie has no time for Subban's shenanigans and freelancing to nowhere, anymore than Babcock does, I bet you right now that Nashville is trying to move Subban.StCapps wrote:That was at the beginning of the year though and like I said Weber is the better stylistic fit with Canada having so many great right handed puck movers. A nine million dollar "Norris Trophy Winner", played about one minute more per game than Ellis, again, Subban and Josi had the same ice time, Eckholm and Ellis had the same ice time, Josi-Subban top paring, Eckholm-Ellis second paring, except, Subban not on the top paring, put with Eckholm because he is a defensive liability, the matchup guy was not Subban, it was Eckholm, Subban was there because Eckholm was needed to protect him from himself, because all Subban does these days, is run around and run off at the mouth, he's a poison pill, quite sure Lavie wants rid of him as much as Therien did, and as much as Babcock wouldn't even have Subban the Freelancing Clown on his team in the first place.StCapps wrote:Lies. And, come game six, even up powerplays, one after the other, where's the Big Nasty from the point? Gone. Who do we got? $9 million for Clownboy and his mouthwash gags instead, whoops.

Whatever. You don't even believe what you are saying. You yourself have pointed out how they Canadiens basically traded a Pronger for a Niedermayer. You just take whatever side of the argument you find to be the most entertaining at any given moment. I see through you, you know Nashville got the better end of that deal.

Even the advance stats nerds agree, Lavie was clearly sheltering PK, Ellis had the same number of defensive zone starts as PK, the difference in TOI is because PK has to get his cookies on the top PP unit, except, he wasn't exactly shooting the lights out, with, wait for it; 0 powerplay goals in 22 games.
