I have another theory, it's called running out of good material, and a lack of imagination leading to him becoming an idiot with good one liners. Rating on Varys was the dumbest thing he ever did, he as slow on the uptake as Jon Snow at this point, like what the fuck?
His turning dumb fits the story line perfectly when you look deeply at Tyrion's backstory.

We all have our longings and anyone of us can idealize the wrong person...

Good stories capture the frailties of human nature.

So yes... ratting on Varys was the dumbest thing he ever did... and that is perfectly fitting for a tragic story line.

Good material after all if you know anything about good television.
Even with his backstory and his parental issues, it still undermines what made his character great for four seasons, to tell a tragic story that wasn't worth the squeeze and make his final four seasons a hell of a lot less interesting. Bad writing is the explanation.

Tyrion used to a pragmatic in his pursuit of an ideal, now he's idealistic and blinded to pragmatism by wishful thinking. They wrecked his character to an end that simply was not worth it, it didn't make the story better for them to go this way, they just ran out of good ideas.

Lets have Tyrion travel to see Dany for a whole season while getting drunk and chirping Varys, then let's turn him into an idiot for two seasons, then let's have idiocy and blind faith get him killed, how sad, great arc there.

Nope...

Watching Tyrion walk through the gates seeing the destruction that his choice resulted in...

That was epic television.

Some of the best writing of the series.

They could have done that without the character sabotage. They could have made his mistakes less numerous, and more realistic in fitting with the character they had portrayed up until that time. Was not necessary. Tyrion could back the wrong side tragically thinking his cleverness could handle the Mad Queen, even turn on Varys at the end, only to realize he fucked up epically, without turning into a complete moron, when his idiocy didn't make the show better until the very end, but the writers weren't good enough to pull that off, so they hit us over the head with Tyrion's stupid now angle instead.

Sorry dude, they blew three seasons with the most interesting character on the show, to set up his final season arc, and the final arc isn't so awesome that it was worth wasting three seasons turning Tyrion into an idiot, when they didn't even have to do that to set up his final season arc, that just makes it even more annoying.

I wonder if there will be a next show that will really have as much wide spread attention to it? Im inclined to think not. People will cyphen off to their niches and tv will get even more fragmented and compartmentalized.

Hopefully it ends when the Galactica exits FTL and the survivors of the human and cylon fleets descend upon the world. They kill off any threats like dragons and zombies. Adama becomes emperor. Starbuck finally shows us her tits.

I've been having fun figuring out the theme song when I watch it
