Re: RIP
Go fast enough and any vehicle will try to take off, whether it's a car or a boat. A large part of the design of either for extreme speed is to keep them on the surface. Formula 1 racers basically have upside down wings fore-and-aft to create traction pressure and keep them down.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2019 12:12 pmLandspeed records should only recognise speeds gained through wheel driven propulsion. These jet-powered ''cars'' are just planes without wings. It's no surprise at all that they try to take off and end up killing the pilots.
We are only accustomed to dealing with like twenty online personas at a time so when we only have about ten people some people have to be strawmanned in order to advance our same relative go nowhere nonsense positions. -TheReal_ND

F1 downforce is mostly about creating grip for cornering. The DRS (drag reduction system) is used to provide extra speed on the straights by opening the wings.brewster wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2019 1:20 pmGo fast enough and any vehicle will try to take off, whether it's a car or a boat. The advantage of insisting on power through the wheels is that it would reduce the speed and make the cars less likely to take off and reduce the needless deaths. It would also make it more likely that innovations would be passed on to normal road-going vehicles as is the case with F1 cars.

They won't go as fast, that's the point.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2019 1:42 pmWhat engine can turn gears at those speeds, though? Imagine the friction of engines and transmissions where the car can go as fast as a rocket car.

Great idea. That should be the new standard.

Racer and TV personality Jessi Combs, who was called the "fastest woman on four wheels," died in Oregon attempting to break her land speed record, authorities announced Wednesday. She was 39.
Emergency workers responded to a call in the Alvord Desert at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, about 90 miles south of the city of Burns. The caller reported that a jet-powered car had crashed.
Deputies from the Harney County Sheriff's Office identified the driver as Combs. She was pronounced dead at the scene. It's unclear what led to the crash, which is under investigation.
Nah you know what? I was watching that video hoping to see the crash but instead I found out she was groomed by Hollywood pedos.
