Someone redpill me on the Pflueger Skilkast. I can't find any reviews on it but someone is selling one for twenty bucks (I don't need it but I'm physically attracted to old things)

Re: Outdoors thread
Nice vintage reel; don't know what condition it's in and if it would be useable. Sniffing around online, looks like those have a manual drag (your thumb), so playing a fish with one could be a pain in the dick.
Also, $20 bucks is about what you pay on he low end for these on fleaBay (ones looking mint at going for 30ish).
There's some older reels that fishermen, esp. surf guys go bonkers over (Cracks, Penn Greenies) and will pay a relatively pretty penny for.

Hmmm. K. I'll pass then thanks. I was looking around trying to find actual info on it and it does appear to be the case that pre war Phluegers are much more sought after along with other fedora stuff. Not trying to make this an expensive hobby but if I could keep my gear kind of old school made in USA that would be cool. Might buy an old school hat that's not a fedora for when I fish too. While I'm smoking a pipe. :head-bang:

If you wanna stay old school/US made for larger spinning reels, check around for Penn Greenies (706z, 710z). Occasionally, you'll find someone selling for dirt cheap. They can be made to be somewhat saltwater resilient too. Kinda like the fancy ass, new sealed reels, but at a fraction of the cost.Nukedog wrote:Hmmm. K. I'll pass then thanks. Most of that stuff is cheap, and as long as you are surf fishing, the very best bait available is free for the taking (sand fleas). A lot of that looks like fresh water gear to me too. I was never big on fresh water fishing, and I only recognize that type of thing from lake fisherman (especially the rubber worms for bass).
Salt water fishing is potentially way, way more affordable.

I'm trying to get into both. I found this though and it seems better. Really I just need a tackle box. 35 dollhairs and bass lures mostly by the looks of it. The box itself would run at least 35. REALLY REALLY WANT THIS DONT TALK SHIT
