It doesn’t? So how does one merge GR with QT? And what are quarks and electrons made of?
Who says a laymen should be able to easily understand a unified theory? Would a layman understand QED? And if not, is QED quackery?
I’d expect something like that from Fife or StA, but was expecting more from you...

No one claims it’s s legitimate - everyone acknowledges it’s presently untestable - but it does solve some major issues when you get under extreme conditions....most research now is to find way to prove or disprove it - CERN no find super symmetry - so not looking good at moment - but seems something like string theory is probably correct.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2019 6:39 amString theory is not even legitimate science. Most of this science entertainer stuff on television is not real science. Science requires you to construct a model that make risky predictions that can be falsified using the scientific method. Nothing about string theory can be falsified. It's not science.
I think the very idea of making a "theory of everything" the object of research represents a fundamental error about what science actually is.

@StA - no one says there has to be a unified theory - but the drive to find one is what spurred Einstein to GR and Freeman to QED - both of which are some of the most accurate and tested theories humans have come up with.
So I would say it’s not foolish to continue to pursue it.

It is untestable forever, not merely presently.Zlaxer wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2019 8:18 amNo one claims it’s s legitimate - everyone acknowledges it’s presently untestable - but it does solve some major issues when you get under extreme conditions....most research now is to find way to prove or disprove it - CERN no find super symmetry - so not looking good at moment - but seems something like string theory is probably correct.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2019 6:39 amString theory is not even legitimate science. It does not solve any real scientific problems because it can never be verified and is therefore useless to science.
String theory is metaphysical theology for athiests. That's not hyperbole but really what it is. Maybe it is true and maybe not, but we cannot construct a scientific experiment to test any of it, nor does it even make any scientifically testable predictions in the first place. It is no different than theology in that respect.

Gravity - it does predict gravity.....
why so fucking testy on this?
