That's actually pretty cool. Make it thicker and it's fair cover.

Semi-transparent oil-based paint it is. Now I just need a sunny day ... so ... newly painted deck and fence by June maybe.

People use it for noise deadening around here. Plus, I guess, it happens to fend off stray shots. And it's harder for drunks to drive through I guess.

Can’t be cheap ... unless you live near an abandoned quarry.

Yeah, just pressure wash, then heavy body stain.

Rent a sprayer and nock it out.

That said, if you have latex on there now, you're kind of fucked.

Pressure washing first
No particular brand, use a solid color deck stain..................... not paint.

Just do one heavy coat, come back in a couple years and hit it again. Just plan on doing it at least every 3 years. It's maintenance, party of the nature of wood fences.
Or you could act like a red blooded American and white wash that damn fence the way great Americans like Tom Sawyer have done for generations, instead of staining it like a new england communist.

Oh, it's cheap, "abandoned quarry" or no.

It's going to be a hell of a mess when it inevitably falls apart.

And it looks like shit.
