500 Meters is fine if I want anything more than that I'd make or buy a sniper rifle...C-Mag wrote:+1SilverEagle wrote:make sure you get a heavy duty barrel, 24 inch with a 1/8 rifling ratio. I'm just waiting for it and the jig to be sent to me, once I got that I'll be able to mill out the Lower 80 to completion.
I'm working on making this first before going to customize it more towards what I really want... either way, I'm making it for a 5.56 round, nothing amazing, but if this works out well, I can see about getting either a match grade barrel or a sniper barrel for it. I've debated a few times, but I want longish range and still close range ability...
Either way, this will be my first attempt at milling out a lower 80... hopefully it will go well.
With training and a well tuned gun you can consistently hit a man sized target at 400-500 meters. However, Afghanistan has consistently proven that the 5.56 round is really only has an effective stopping range of no more than 300 meters. The 62 grain round Silver Eagle suggest will help.
Rule of thumb by most firearms professionals is, spend as much on optics as you do on the gun.

Well that answered my next question. The Conservative wrote:Nope, You just can't sell it, or give it to your next of kin in theory... but again, that is if you tell the government you own it as well... otherwise, no one needs to know.TheReal_ND wrote:I was under the impression it's illegal to mill AR lowers.

I got it, looks cool, just had to get a replacement for the next size up. The site gave improper measurements, the measurements they were giving were off by a few inches. I also ended up repairing the damage they did to the jacket upon transport... but meh, I can't complain overall.de officiis wrote:What happened with the leather coat?

So there is a registration regime you'd be flouting? Here's what I'd do, see a lawyer that specializes in FFLs and carry issues. Say you have a criminal record or will have a criminal record (unpaid parking tickets or whatever) and you believe any registration would incriminate you. They can write up an affidavit to that. That way if you're ever pinched for violating the registration, you might have a way to wiggle out of it.The Conservative wrote:Nope, You just can't sell it, or give it to your next of kin in theory... but again, that is if you tell the government you own it as well... otherwise, no one needs to know.TheReal_ND wrote:I was under the impression it's illegal to mill AR lowers.

So is this going to be your get-home gun you cache behind the server rack at work?

It is illegal to sell in Mass, there is no law, Mass or Federal that states making said gun is illegal. So I'm not breaking any laws.clubgop wrote:So there is a registration regime you'd be flouting?
