The importance is over stated. Probably because journalists get to vote on it, and this is their one moment of power.
But it's fun to remember the guys from a few years back, and to discuss what makes a good player. Especially as we gain a better understanding of which players are effective.

HOF's promote the sport and celebrate the best of it. If you like basketball you will probably enjoy visiting the HOF.
