Israel/Palestine Conflict 2023
Haven't seen a thread up about this.
My take is that Hamas was given the go-ahead by somebody. If Israel starts a ground war, this has the potential to be a Franz Ferdinand domino situation. I'm not confident enough to say one way or the other if the Israeli ground invasion drags in other ME actors. Egypt seems to want to do things by UN Queensbury rules.

Syria and Lebanon fired rockets at them. Looks like a 2-front war, soon to be 3.
Learned a lot about the typical wall security, and it’s implausible that this happened without massive help.
Israel claiming that a cyber attack disabled their defenses, but that doesn’t explain the hours of response time. These guys are on a 24-hour hair trigger.

People have said that Israel knew about the attack on the rave and are using it as a justification.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2023 7:30 amSyria and Lebanon fired rockets at them. Looks like a 2-front war, soon to be 3.

I've been in enough organizations to know that we're all just doing our best to pretend to be competent. Israel getting caught with their pants down doesn't seem like so much of a stretch to me.
We forget that culturally, the Middle East is about getting one over on your neighbor. They don't have that history of community. Religious community, yes, but not a Mannerbund style of community America has traditionally had. That tradition is mostly dead, but its ghost lingers.

Israel is creating a war management cabinet, and missiles hit a hospital in Ashkelon.
Words from Hezbollah on US Aircraft Carriers:
Hezbollah: Aircraft carriers will not intimidate resistance factions prepared for confrontation until victory and complete liberation are achieved
They seem committed now.

That likely puts Iran in the fray soon. Hostiles on all sides except for Egypt.Xenophon wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2023 8:05 amIsrael is creating a war management cabinet, and missiles hit a hospital in Ashkelon.

Imagine Kamala as commander in chief right now. I don't know for sure, but if part of the peace process is servicing the Israeli and Hamas leadership under the desk, she may actually achieve more than Joe.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2023 8:12 amImagine Kamala as commander in chief right now.
