Is this the new norm?

I said largely.
There are other factors.
Poor pay and conditions have meant that driver numbers have been falling for years. Freedom of Movement allowed EU drivers to plug the gap but since Brexit they have stopped coming.

The thread title is a bit misleading. There is no shortage of fuel it's tanker drivers that there is a shortage of.

It was reported at the weekend that BP had shut 20 of its 1200 service stations due to driver shortages and panic buying did the rest.
Now media outlets are showing images of large queues which just exacerbates the problem.
This is toilet rolls all over again.
People are dumb.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Boris is resisting calling in the Army to deliver fuel.
He'd have to admit that the loss of freedom of movement is largely responsible for the current shortage of drivers.
If this continues for much longer he'll have to do it though.

If only the UN or EU would send troops in to coddle you.
Then you could go back to being completely useless and treated like invalids.

When will some benevolent coalition of nations or world government finally create robots that insret feeding tubes into people's mouths and mechanically wipe their ass?
Haven't Britons struggled enough in modern times?
Is a cradle-to-grave guarantee of never being inconvenienced in life really too much to ask?
