I suspect he was angling for that Rush Limbaugh money, but he didn't want to be a "conservative" talking head. So he was aiming to be like a "both parties are bad" Rush Limbaugh. A guy who could take twice the audience, because he could draw from the right and left.

But ... the MSM is left - so when the big paychecks started to appear he was probably told ""There is no middle ground. You're with us, or against us".

Since his primary goal was to be a big entertainer who worked for himself, the compromise probably didn't even make him flinch. He joined. He signed up. He sold out. And now he's his own boss - he just has to make sure he doesn't stray from the assigned lane.

that's what I figured was going to happen all along

it's not like Carlin invented the Carlin doctrine, there were lots of Carlin's around trying to play both sides

this is the effect of the Disruptor Trump

like Carlin was talking about a Disruptor, and I said to him at the time, it ain't gonna be someone you like, Dan

because Dan was not a populist, Dan was always an elitist, the filthy hoipoloi were not as smart as Dan, Dan new best

it's like Carlin was gung-ho for Julian Assange

now I don't think Julian Assange is a criminal

there's no way an Australian can be a "traitor" to America

none the less, Assange was a bad actor, he was a propagandist not a journalist

like any Australian, Assange had a deep resentment against America and was out to trash her

this is why I called Carlin a Secret Canadian

because he's like a Canadian

he benefits from the American Empire of Liberty greatly, while at the same trashing America as if it is an Evil Empire

this is basically Woke, Carlin was proto-Woke all along

well he claimed to be the "outsider" who wanted to "drain the swamp"

and pretended that was his core political motivation

above everything else and

built his whole political brand around it
It's like listening to Chris Hedges. Exactly what he's been asking for his entire career happened, and he blames any negative effects on capitalism, conservatives and the right in general.

I don't see it that way today. I admit I was fooled that the guy was genuine. But he was genuine only in the Chris Hedges sense. He lays out true problems, but can only see one villain because he's been on that side all along.

Remember when Dan talked about protesting in the street against nukes and Reagan. That's straight up red-doper-diaper baby activity in the 80s. There were no real reasons to protest in the 80s other than to make the ruling party look bad.

That's not fair to Chris Hedges

Chris Hedges admits his bias

Dan Carlin pretends to sit on the fence, like CNN

while still being heavily biased

Hedges is authentic, Carlin is a phony

the left is good at identifying problems

but is terrible at identifying solutions to those problems

Carlin and Hedges are alike, in that regard

yeah, that's right

it's like Hedges will accurately call out what the problems are

but if you ask Hedges what the solution is, he will say Socialism is the solution

it's the same with Carlin

like America is actually the least corrupt country on earth, America is the only country that fights corruption

just like America is the only country that went to war against slavery

the Carlin brand is trashing America as the worst of the worst, when America is actually the best there ever was

and that is Woke, that is the essence of Woke, trashing America for its own sake

but now the Dan Carlin's are in charge, this is Dan Carlin's America now, tearing itself apart from a loss of faith

Well ... I was surprised to see him flip so blatantly and quickly.
But I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, so I'm easily taken in by folks who make the effort to misrepresent themselves. Still, rather give someone too much rope than hang them prematurely.

I don't know if I've ever heard Hedges admit that, but I'll take your word for it.

Regardless he plays as a man of the people while telling us giving more power to the Socialists in charge is the answer.

his analysis of the problems is good

his analysis of the solutions, not so much

very typical of the left

but at least he doesn't pretend he isn't on the left
