I would guess that most Democrats firmly believe their own Russia hoax, they've drank their own kool-aid

the entrenched interest of the Washington National Security Consensus is to invoke an ideological component

Russia is not the Soviets, but there has to be some existential threat to America to justify a counterforce option

so it is going to be that the Russians are an existential threat to Democracy itself,

justifying the use of nuclear weapons against them in theater as necessary

you can't rely on MAD, the Russians are bringing America down by Cyberwarfare Active Measures

the way is then open for theater thermonuclear war

this is why the Obama Doctrine includes the use of tactical nuclear weapons in response to a cyber attack

but that doesn't mean that you run out and drop a nuclear bomb as an immediate action

the more common employment of tactical nuclear weapons is maneuver

you simply position them in theater like a chess piece

that alone shapes the battle space, that alone preempts the adversary

escalation dominance to acheive nuclear deescalation

I trump you with nuclear weapons, forcing you to back down / come to the bargaining table in the face of it

even though the Trump Administration slowed this process, they didn't stop it, they carried on with the doctrine

deploying W76-2 tactical nuclear warheads on the Trident II SLBM, that's escalation dominance

that's 288 theater thermonuclear weapons being deployed at once, on just one submarine

even just four SSBN's loaded like that, is 1152 tactical nuclear warheads,

with a five minute flight time on a depressed trajectory, accurate down to 300 ft

right now America has both SSBN-726 Ohio class loaded with UGM-133A Trident II SLBM

as well as SSGN-726 Ohio class loaded UGM-109D Tomahawk SLCM

once you replace the W76 with W76-2 on the Trident II, then everything is counterforce at that point

the entire Navy strategic submarine force would loaded for tactical nuclear war instead of MAD

the next step is to replace MIRV's with Hypersonic Glide Vehicles ( HGV )

so instead of a MIRV flying ballistic, the HGV dives back into the atmosphere

HGV is launched by a ballistic missile, but then maneuvers like a cruise missile

just many times faster than a cruise missile,

a cruise missile in coming in at 0.8 mach, HGV is slowing from 20+ mach

Prompt Global Strike

if they called it Preemptive Theater Thermonuclear Counterforce

someone might notice that it's not actually intended for "striking terrorists"

it's all really the product of the "Cheney Administration"

Cheney made both moves simultaneously under the auspices of the GWOT

he had a window to get anything passed under the rubric of "Counterterrorism"

when they pulled out of ABM 72', they knew the Russians would deploy INF's in response

so America had to start preparing her own INF counterforce option, under cover of "Prompt Global Strike"

generally, "Poking the Bear" is asserted to be about Eastern European countries joining NATO

but that's not really what set the Russians off

the Russians had already ceded the Warsaw Pact

the Russians had already collapsed back down to fighting just for the Russian Near Abroad

they fought for Transnistria, Chechnya, South Ossetia, etcetera

they didn't get set off until America pulled out of ABM 72' while deploying INF's, back in 2002

when America then crossed into the Russian Near Abroad, Obama went into Ukraine with NATO

then the Russians were backs against a wall and had to make a move in Crimea

Can the 288 warheads be individually guided or is it more of a spread around one target?
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

MIRV stands for Multiple Interdependent Reentry Vehicle

how it works, is that there is a thing called a Post Boost Vehicle ( PBV ) which detaches from the missile

this is like a bus carrying the MIRVs, it flies along dropping them independently, like bombs

the SLBM is showering an area, but it's a very large area,

they can hit anywhere in the Black Sea Theater for example
