I suspect the reason the EU and the US don't see eye to eye on Ukraine is because the tactic is different. The EU wants to bring all the old Eastern European countries into the liberal democratic European community. The endgame is to bring in Russia as well through ideological osmosis.

The Americans are more pragmatic. They just want to contain Russia. They will surround the entire country with failed, destabilized states if they have to. A ring of rubble. That is the future that I predict for Ukraine. Like Chechnya, just bigger.
