Perception is key, when talking about getting rid of the Electorial College.
Remember, there is a perception that if we get rid of the Electoral College, the US will not be effected, and that the voice of the people will be heard.
This is why we don't go by popular vote if we went by popular vote, the Democrats only need to cater to eight maybe 10 real cities across a handful of states to make it so they can win the entire US... that means about 8 states can control the fate of the entire US....
The Electoral vote allows the country's voice to be heard, while the Popular vote allows the megacities to control what happens in the farmlands, the rust belt, and the suburbs....
That is not what we as a country want, or need.
The 2016 election Hillary Clinton got 65,853,514 with some major states , while Trump got 62,984,828 spread across the entire country. This is why we don't go by popular vote if we went by popular vote, the Democrats only need to cater to eight maybe 10 real cities across a handful of states to make it so they can win the entire US... that means about 8 states can control the fate of the entire US....

Good thing this only applies to 1 branch of government.
Imagine if we actually had to concern ourselves with the Legislature.

The Senate has the same kind of State-centric voting power; it’s geographic democracy.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 4:12 pmThey have an electoral college?Martin Hash wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 12:07 pmThe Senate is essentially the same thing.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 12:04 pmGood thing this only applies to 1 branch of government.

Indeed. And as long as they keep electing themselves, we don’t have to worry about it.Martin Hash wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 4:37 pmThe Senate has the same kind of State-centric voting power; it’s geographic democracy.

Not really. I’m just annoyed that all the focus is on POTUS every single time, while the real criminals that rule us just slink around, undisturbed. It’s the greatest distraction technique ever.Martin Hash wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 7:25 pmR we debating anything?SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 6:23 pmIndeed.
