SARS Pt. 2 - Wuhan Boogaloo
There wasn't a thread for the Coronavirus yet, so I figured I'd make it. I know we have some people with knowledge of infectious diseases and whatnot, so I'd be interested to hear their take on the hysteria. I'm not so sure it's the new Spanish Flu, but it's so difficult to parse fact from clickbait nowadays that my default stance is to ignore the media when they start fearmongering about the fashionable new pandemic.
EDIT: Links for different stories on the outbreak.

A 3% fatality rate is a high figure if the projections for infections prove correct.
Estimates of up to 250,000 cases by 4th February.
Sooner or later a pandemic will wipe out millions but it remains to be seen whether this is the one.

For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

It's interesting to me that the media is saying, "Experts say Coronavirus can spread before you start exhibiting symptoms!!!!" My understanding is that most viruses do the same thing.

Yeah, that makes screening for high temperatures at airports a lot less effective.

Here's a cool map that pulls data from the World Health Organization, Center for Disease Control, and two Chinese sources.
https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps ... 7b48e9ecf6
Right now it shows 2,886 cases world-wide, with 2,825 all within Mainland China.

All depending, of course, on how much you trust the "official" government numbers from China.
There was something recently (unverified) about 90,000 confirmed cases in China.
Or it could just be the "official" 2800... If you trust their government to not be covering up the real extent.
Of course any government would want to prevent panic.
Like the age old question - if an ELE asteroid was on a collusion course, would they tell us? People would panic, crime would probably go rampant (what's to lose if we're all dead in a month anyways?)...

I believe it is significantly worse than the 2,800 or so reported cases. They quarantined 35 million people.
Why did they name the virus after a beer?

This is why I have grown to avoid all Asians with face masks. That shit triggers me. I would just cut them off at this point. The great wall of China would include airlines, shipping, and Internet.

Next bug from China should be called the Pacificovirus.
