Trump made the US Energy Independant

Post by C-Mag » Wed Dec 12, 2018 8:59 pm

The last 9 Presidents, all the way back to Nixon, have promised Energy Independence. Only one achieved it. It's an amazing achievement given the years of peak oil talk, and the Obama years of saying the US has to go throw billions at green energy. Looks more and more like Obama was just putting his thumb on the scale so he could get kickbacks.

Trumps not getting an credit, but he probably shouldn't because...………………. Orange Man Bad.

Fracking and fuel efficient cars are why we are energy independent now - not sure how much the Donald contributed to those....personally not crazy about fracking by the oil industry keeps having waste water issues.

Also, and I know this has been said since the 50's, fusion looks very promising within 20 years.

Fracking isn’t profitable under $100/barrel oil. It survives on subsidies - just like green energy and ethanol.

It’s the Republican cash-for-clunkers program.

Trump has expanded exploration, extraction and natural gas use. That's why we are energy independent. This was something that most thought was impossible, when 9 Presidents attempt it and only one achieves it, that president should get credit for putting the US in a much more stable position with energy globally.

Further this is not something most countries are ever going to achieve.

I wonder why he is such a dick on climate change?
Why do you think he pulled out of the Paris agreement?
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

i'm not sure how trump expects the US to remain energy independent when he keeps threatening american jobs in the oil and gas industry by advocating for lower oil prices

I do not believe it makes a difference. Oil was our energy dependence problem, but heavy industry runs on coal and nuclear power, which we can generate in abundance.

The ideal strategy would entail massive subsidies and government research into electric automobiles and trains, while building a national cargo pipeline network; while simultaneously developing our oil reserves to rival the median oil producing nations and keeping gas prices very low while we transition.

This gets us mostly off oil while making other nations dependent upon our oil.
