“Entrepreneurship Porn”
The phrase “entrepreneurship porn” is appearing in my web searches, news feeds, and professional media channels with increasing regularity. While trendy phrases come and go this one strikes me as something a bit more sinister. The general idea behind “entrepreneurship porn” is that the foolish desire of being a high powered CEO is luring away hapless college students and ruining their lives.
That’s some seriously low-info, lazy ass, shit.
Think about it for a moment.
The phrase, and the multiple articles from Harvard Business to Yahoo Finance dealing with it, are intended to belittle people who dream big. At it’s core, the ridicule implicit in the phrase “entrepreneurship porn” is nothing more than misdirected loser-jealousy mingling with rage.
How dare YOU believe that you can be the financial captain of your own destiny.
How dare YOU believe that you can create something successful.
How stupid are YOU to believe that in America, you have the opportunity to achieve greatness?
Etc, etc.
“Entrepreneurship Porn” is just one more anti-meritocracy, anti-self sufficiency, anti-American phrase the loser demographic leverages to belittle the winner demographic. It should be locked in a cell with “White Privilege”, “Mansplaining”, and “Cultural Appropriation” and dropped into the sea.
The loser demographic can have those phrases back when they build a submarine to retrieve them ... which safely puts them out of reach for the duration of our lifetime.

Gladly.
Here is an extensive and detailed report on all of the submarines engineered by victimhood-embracing, success envying, race-blaming, hashtag-loving, losers:

This isn't the first time The American Dream has been under attack by Collectivists. William Bryan Jennings had 3 unsuccessful but close runs, and another presidential contender in the 20th Century (whom I can't recall right now) got close. Even now, we're only talking about 1/3rd of the nation. They need to be repeatedly defeated in elections before the Dem Party comes back to "liberty."

There’s video.
Nothing pisses off the loser demographic like having the audacity to suggest they could ”do something” to improve their own situation.

Hadn't heard the term before now, so just googled it. Judging by the results, it seems you got the wrong impression:

Iow, looks like the "porn" suffix is about having realistic expectations and not expecting the business world to just spread their legs for you and your ideas because they instantly recognize you as the special snowflake your mother always said you were.
So, appears it's not actually entrepreneurship that’s being denigrated. At least not if we isolate the discussion to just the use and meaning of that particular term.

Did you look up the meaning as it was coined by Morra Aarons-Mele? Read up on her and her motivations here in her own words. Sounds to me like her entrepreneurship consists of making sure people report to their cubicles.BjornP wrote: ↑Wed Aug 29, 2018 10:16 pmHadn't heard the term before now, so just googled it. Edit: I get what you are saying, on the surface it looks pretty innocuous but the apparent motivation behind it isn't.

Top Google result, Harvard Business Review:
Pffft.
Other examples:
Look, maybe it’s a cultural thing which is why the implication isn’t obvious to you Bjorn. Try to remember that this is America. The land of “pull yourself up by your bootstraps”, rugged individualism, and a near religious reverence for self sufficiency. Our grandparents were raised believing you don’t ask for anything from anyone, and you put in a hard day’s work every day but Sunday.
Now it’s turned into “post your sob story on GoFundMe” and “Entrepreneurship is dangerous and you’ll fail at it anyway”. It’s simply another assault on the American ethos, another decline from positive values to negative, a shift from bold independence to fear-driven dependency.

Aka- What a tragedy, these young graduates obsessed with the idea of starting their own biz when it’s not possible for them all to succeed. The Dangerous Rise of “Entrepreneurship Porn
...Moreover, it’s just not possible that every smart young graduate can launch her own successful enterprise. Part of me wants to cry every time I meet a smart young student and the notion of joining a respected, existing institution cannot compete with the thought of creating her own...

Again, this crazy idea that trying to run a business should be denigrated because “not everybody has the capacity”. Talk about perpetually catering to the lowest common denominator. If everyone can’t fly an airplane, no one should try. Get over your airline pilot porn, people, and stick to doing what you’re told. The Exultation of Entrepreneurship Porn
...However, I also see a lot of what is now called “entrepreneurship porn”. This phenomenon is luring away many ambitious young adults into launching their own businesses somewhat prematurely, when they would be better off working in a more organized and established organization. Not everybody has the capacity to run a business but too many are catching the “entrepreneurship porn” fever....

Again with the retarded “not for everyone” objection - it’s like there’s not an original thought among this pessimistic hive mind. Are you a victim of ‘Entrepreneurship Porn’ too?
Sure. There are people who played against the odds and made it big. Elon Musk was only a couple of days away from bankruptcy when his projects failed repeatedly and he got funds from his investors. Steve Jobs made a comback after he got fired from his own company. Likewise, there are inspiring, intriguing, stories of average people making it big. But does that mean it’s for everyone and anyone?
Entrepreneurship is NOT for everyone. It’s not for every high school dropout or college dropout. It’s not a go-to path for failures to make it big. You can’t possibly be like ‘Oh, I failed my classes, but it’s okay. I’m gonna start a businness.

Dangerous! As if we all know someone who died trying to start their own biz.Disconnect: entrepreneur porn is a dangerous fantasy (and I’m not just talking about success rates)
You’ve read it before, even if you’re not familiar with the term “entrepreneur porn.” The tech startup industry is full of it: stories about founders who bravely quit their day jobs and set out on the long and difficult startup slog towards success. Their passion for their company usually estranges friends and family, stretches their finances to the breaking point, and everything nearly falls apart. But at the end, it all works out. The protagonist’s company becomes a big success, and he’s sitting on a beach in Thailand sipping mojitos, writing about why you should do the same thing.
Of course, it’s all a fantasy. Most of the entrepreneur porn essays and stories we hear are cherry-picked, highly romanticized, and – if you’re trying to seriously assess the realities of doing a startup – downright dangerous.
