I'm reminded of this podcast I heard a while back.

A man gets a knock on his door, opens it up and it's the local HOA representative. He's a renter though. HOA rep says to him, "Hello sir, we're signing up people to help clean up any garbage there is around the community, and help plant trees to beautify the area."

Guy is like "Fuck no I don't want to help you, if there's less garbage and the place is prettier, and property values go up, then my rent goes up."

Slams the door on the HOA rep.

Fucking boot 'em.

I mean fuck HOAs, but fuck having people in the community that don't care about the future.

You have one interest group, the dbtreks of the world, who don't give two shits about min wage earners, nor about rent going up. But these people vote, and people sympathetic to these people vote. The fight for 15 people won the argument. And still people, like DBtrek, are offering no concessions or compromise. So the voting populace will do what they can do without them. People like DBtrek will never come to the table though, he's just angry that sawant is threatening his job opportunities. He can't see this isn't happening in a vacuum. Not everyone agrees with all that the socialist is about, but at least she's offering some remedy that they're not otherwise getting.

I am average in some respects, in others not.
I know by metrics.

So, you've taken a legit IQ test then? What data do you have that would prove you're above average intelligence?

Me, I don't have any objective data that would say I'm above average. So, I concede that from the present data I'm right there in the middle. That's a rational assumption.

I'm above average in height, being that I'm 6'3", but that's easy to test (measure my height) and research. IQ is not as easy.

Haven’t taken an IQ test since 2nd grade and don’t know what the results were other than being placed in the “gifted” program. Which means I was ahead of my time in 2nd grade but little else.

The point is I aspire to be more than average. Why don’t you?

Yeah, my parents were told to skip me up a grade around the same age, they didn't.

My assertion about "average" was never about aspirations. Even more so, it's often in spite of what we are, that we aspire to be more than we were born to be. My assertion was never that we should aim to be average. We should acknowledge that most of us were born average, and we should still go do great things. Jump the banks of the river you were born into.

An average person who specializes is a thing to behold. Hard work beats natural talent every day of the week.

They’re apparently unaware that rent control creates housing shortages, so they want to tax Amazon $0.26 per hour per employee so they can fund “affordable housing initiatives” (aka rent control) and fight homelessness (partially caused by rent control).

They are a perfect storm of leftist idiocy. Raise the minimum wage, Levy new taxes on businesses multiple times a year, and then act astounded that Amazon and the chamber of commerce would react negatively.

After all, as the socialist put it, “They can easily pay twice as much as they are now, even four times”
