Boy Scouts are dropping the word 'boy' from the name of flagship program

The Boy Scouts of America doubled down Wednesday on its quest to become the scouting program of choice for boys and girls, announcing it will drop "Boy" from the name of its signature program.

Chief Scout Executive Mike Surbaugh also unveiled the group's new "Scout Me In" marketing campaign aimed at promoting inclusiveness.

“As we enter a new era for our organization, it is important that all youth can see themselves in Scouting in every way possible," Saurbaugh said.

The umbrella organization will retain its name, Boy Scouts of America or BSA. The term Cub Scouts, for kids 7-10 years old, is gender neutral and also will go unchanged. Boy Scouts, which includes kids from 10 to 17, will become Scouts BSA in February.

Change has been coming quickly to the iconic if shrinking organization. In October, it announced it would provide programs for girls. Several months before that, the group announced it would accept and register transgender youths into its organization.

In 2015, it ended its ban on gay leaders....

I’m sure completely overhauling their organization to appeal to gays and transgenders will reverse the course of their “shrinking” programs. If that doesn’t work there’s always albinos. When looking to improve membership numbers, always reorganize to appeal to tiny demographics.

They are changing Boy Scouts to be called Scouts BSA. What does BSA stand for? Boy Scouts of America, a name which they are keeping. Cuck out Scouts!

Maybe next year they can open the program up to illegals. Give merit badges for border crossing.

This truly does give me the sad. Some of my best childhood memories involve girl scouts and camping and all that. It never made me feel jealous that my brother had boy scouts, and I'm not sure why girls are being taught that it should.

This is taking the "toys are not gender specific" to a creepy level. I agree that a boy or girl should not be chided for playing with a toy that is perceived as being the wrong gender, but dammit, there should be places for girls to be girls and boys to be boys.

Calm down. This is not new in the world. Boy- and girl scout districts in Sweden were merged in the '60s and '70s. No one thinks it's strange today. Both my son and daughter went to the same scout corp and it worked great for both. I was one of the leaders. It was about 50/50 and I can't remember any incident where gender was an issue.
