The lo-info media can only conceive of Randy "teaming up" with Democrats. When you listen to his discussion with Pompeo above, however, it is obvious that Paul is standing firm in looking for Trump to perform as promised in his campaign, and consistently with his statements about US foreign policy for years and years before his campaign.
Remember "America First?" I member.
How quickly the slobbering class has lapped up Pompeo as some kind of super-duper SOS candidate.
Rand stands alone; Mike Lee is pre-cucked. Ruz is a basket-case. The entire Democratic party is a smoldering shit-heap.
How Rand Paul could still stop Pompeo
“He’s got some very different views on our foreign policy. I just think it’s an unfortunate way to express those views,” said Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas).
“It’s unseemly. He clearly doesn’t respect the outcome of the election,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a hawk who frequently clashes with Paul over foreign policy.
With Paul’s resistance hardening and nine of the 10 Democrats on the panel already opposed, Pompeo is likely to get an unfavorable vote in committee. The question is whether Democrats would team up with Paul to kill his nomination outright, rather than issuing a negative recommendation but allowing the secretary of State nominee to be taken up by the full Senate.
. . .
Paul was mostly mum on his plans other than to indicate he hasn’t changed his mind. “I don’t really have anything new to report,” he said in a brief interview.
But he was quick to defend himself from Graham’s comments suggesting that Paul still hasn’t gotten over his loss to Trump.
“People who impulsively wanted war with North Korea just a month ago should refrain from offering their opinions,” said Paul spokesman Sergio Gor, of Graham.
. . .
Gor, Paul’s spokesman, dismissed critics who say the senator opposes Trump’s agenda.
“Sen. Rand Paul remains one of the biggest supporters of the America First agenda, from limiting foreign interventions to cutting taxes, Sen. Paul continues his great relationship with the president and will continue to support his efforts,” Gor said.
Oh by the way, Pompeo is also full of shit on his service record, it appears now.
It Turns Out Mike Pompeo Never Served in the Gulf War
Secretary of State-in-waiting Mike Pompeo never served in the Gulf War, even though media outlets and many of his colleagues have repeatedly said he did, and Pompeo has done nothing to dispute their claims.
Splinter News asked the CIA about Pompeo’s record, and the agency confirmed that while he was in the Army from 1986 to 1991, he never saw action in the Middle East.
A spokesperson said that Pompeo, who is currently director of the CIA, “was in the U.S. Army at the time of the Gulf War — serving until 1991. He was not deployed to that theater.”
. . .
Splinter has a rundown of some prominent instances in which Pompeo’s war record has been cited incorrectly These include articles in The New Yorker and The Wall Street Journal, a letter signed by 51 Republicans expressing support for Pompeo’s secretary of State nomination, and a Marco Rubio speech on the Senate floor. Throughout all this, Pompeo has said nothing to correct the record. It’s possible, though seems unlikely, that he has simply missed all the references to his nonexistent war history. He has been busy, after all.
How do you vets feel about a politician who allows bullshit about a non-existent service record to go unchecked?
It fits in well with the general theme of pussy draft dodgers running the neocon show for Trump and Jared, I guess. /shrug
