For us or for the Chinese? These are two different races and cultures you are talking about.

OK...
Break it down for us.
Does it work for one and not the other....
Or is it simply a bad / good idea?

All power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely so a very bad idea for either country.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

After Mao, the Chinese Communist party convened to prevent excatly that sort of thing from happening. Guess political memory isn't very long in China.
And it isn't power that corrupts. The pathological and ever increasing need for "security" corrupts. The sort of people who consider lifelong dictators a good idea are the people who consider change and the possibility of change to be equal to disruption, chaos and intolerable risk and anarchy. The opposite of that is naturally "stability", and what could be more "stable" than power always remaining in the same, reliable, predictable hands?

I'd say a majority of the people who frequent this forum would accept a King if he was their Party. Aristocracy comes before liberty here.

Well said Bjorn... and this pathological need for "security" facilitates the extreme accrual of power... in the hands of a dictator.BjornP wrote:And it isn't power that corrupts. There is this weird Trump effect that I've noticed. That man could say anything, do anything, and people would believe he's playing 5d chess game and really, you should just give him a chance and see that his real plan will be revealed later on. They have a sort of religious faith in his ability to lead.Martin Hash wrote:I'd say a majority of the people who frequent this forum would accept a King if he was their Party. Then when one points out that this is the second time he's come out against something like due process before taking away gun rights:
First time:

Second Time
http://insider.foxnews.com/2018/03/01/t ... -amendment
Crazy huh? A dirty liberal like me is defending gun rights whereas die hard conservatives are relatively silent about what Trump has said in the past and what he has said again. Taking away 2nd amendment rights without due process is bullshit. I don't care if you're Democrat or Republican. I don't care if you're Libertarian or Green party.
Fuck any politician who says it. (and because I know someone is going to bring up Obama, I'll bring him up first) Guess what? Obama agrees with Trump on this!
