Urban vs. Rural; What's to be done?

If localities could split from cities, how long before you see any measurable benefit for either rural or urban areas?

How much is aggravation worth? There would immediately be a great sense of satisfaction on both sides.

Ok and then what? I'm just wondering when the real fallout , good, neutral, or bad would really occur. Surely something culturally and economically would, right?

Rural areas would have shittier infrastructure, but according to Trump's plan, those things are going to privatize anyway. Culturally, city-folk would probably not want to venture into the country as readily because local laws would be suspect. Balkanization but no different than the Balkanization occuring in Millennial Generation Spanish-speaking communities.

There's lots of rural places where vast numbers of people are on public assistance of some sort like disability or SSI, which of them are state based besides Medicaid? Who's going to pay for paving their roads? It's well known that paving low density areas is extremely economically inefficient.

I did. The map is mislabeled; it should be titled “Welfare Benefits.”

Right off the bat..

It includes things like disability rates, but I can tell you from experience that people who end up disabled end up moving to those regions because they are much easier places to live on a fixed income.

I've lived in Chicago and rural Appalachia. I can tell you flat out that the idea that Chicago is an easier place to live than Appalachia is a fucking joke.

I will read this later, but right off the bat, I can say my solution is simple: split off the cities into city-states. No need for secession of entire regions. It's the cities that are the problem.
