It might be of interest you to take a look at Russia's religious makeup. While it's pretty clear that the Russian Orthodox Church has benefitted from some government bolstering, it's also indicated that a sizable chunk of the people who call themsrlves members really don't hold religious beliefs. Similarly, a lot of people in Sweden belong to their national church, but only a comparatively small portion of them think religion is important, and only a tiny fraction actually attend weekly services.

We had a visiting priest about a year ago from one of the far eastern cities. He said the communists had persecuted Russian orthodox so badly that Roman Catholics were relatively more prevalent in this one area today since for whatever reason they were not so actively targeted. He also said in so many words that the average Russian is no longer religious at all. A huge number of women have had multiple abortions. Communism and atheism really fucked that country up. When Putin talks like this, I don't think he is merely pointing fingers. Russia was essentially ground zero for the degeneracy bomb that we were warned about by the Fatima revelations. He's just one of the few western leaders trying to save our civilization right now.
