The plague outbreak in Madagascar is continuing to spread at unprecedented rates, with 57 deaths and more than 680 cases.
The latest figures are from October 12. An estimated 329 of these cases, and 25 deaths, were in the capital, Antananarivo.
Of the 684 cases reported as of October 12, 474 were pneumonic plague, 156 bubonic and 1 septicemic plague. A further 54 were unspecified, according to WHO.
Well, at least it's quick.. less likely to go pandemic.
Pneumonic plague is more virulent or damaging and is an advanced form characterized by a severe lung infection. The infection can be transmitted from person to person via airborne droplets -- coughing or sneezing. The incubation period is short, and an infected person may die within 12 to 24 hours.

My understanding is Bubonic Plague is pretty prevalent around the globe in some rodent populations, such as gophers in Utah. Maybe it mutated. Anyway, dusting off the old plague suits classic look will be welcomed.

The bacterium Yersenia pestis never went away, there's usually about a thousand cases of plague per year, SIFCLF.

It's a bacteria not a virus, it can't be wiped out, it's always around everywhere, just don't wallow in rats and fleas and you'll be fine.

Remember most reporters today have graduated with Liberal Arts degrees that spent all there time focusing on Social Justice rather than discovering facts and doing research. Not really a political attack, just the facts. IMO, this is why internet citizen journalists are able to constantly scoop and prove traditional media wrong, Wrong, WRONG.

I think that most people have assumed that it was a freak mutation that created the Black Death, not the generic, base bacterium.
Would you presume that we're all immune to this strain, given our shared European heritage?

Could not agree more. Most of what I hear from traditional 'news' sounds like it was written by a high-schooler.
But internet journalism has it's own, very dangerous limitations as well.

The issue during the Black Death was not mutation, it wasn't a superstrain disease nor anything like that, it was a common bacteria, they just didn't understand microbiology, they didn't know what a bacteria was, they didn't understand what caused it, and they were all wallowing in rats and fleas at all times. It's the kind of thing you're going to catch, in like a third world refugee camp, or living in a garbage dump, places like that.
