I watched some of this Congressional testimony, our senior military leaders are acting like the E4 Mafia, a bunch of didndo nuffins

The main thing I've taken away from all this, is that these people aren't accomplished people. They aren't serious people, they mere practitioners of sophistry.

the thing is, the doctrine that Milley is following is operationally wrong

nuclear deterrence is based on the Balance of Terror

it's not correct to say, as Milley did, that the mission is "deescalation"

in order to maintain the deterrent, you have to put the fear of God into the adversary, at all times

if you say your mission is "deescalation" that is logically counter to deterrence in fact

reassuring the Chinese that you will not attack them without warning vastly increases the chances of Chinese miscalculation

it is existentially dangerous to let your enemy know that you are not really resolved to fight, thus is the stuff Cuban Missile Crises are made of

The overall take away from these hearings are that our military leadership is severely broken and incapable.
The testimony showed that the executive branch has really bad communication with the military and that the executive branch has lost control of the military, not just under Biden, but also under Trump.

Further, our top 3 people in the military stated that they cannot assess the will to fight of an army or people.
