It's Gotta Be the Shoes, Money

This ain't the NCAA sniffing about. It's the FBI.

College sports headed for reboot in midst of potentially its biggest scandal since 1950s

Yesterday, it was 10 defendants; against whom you can safely assume the goods are immaculate:

Four college basketball assistant coaches hit with federal fraud, corruption charges

Today Pitino and Jurich got the gas:

Rick Pitino reportedly fired after University of Louisville is linked to college basketball bribery scandal

What's next? Who knows, but this thing looks like Castle Bravo just touching off.

Biggest since the 50's, that's saying something. In the 80's it was pretty wild.

Holy shit.

Rick "Seven Seconds or Less" Pitino never found a scandal he couldn't squirm his way out of.

A buddy of mine had a great point: If UL is giving these kids 100k and hookers and is only pulling shit-level NCAA hoop talent, what the fuck are these other schools doing?!

Bill Self better have his desk cleaned out, just in case.

Shit, I think the Pony Express was giving a hell of a lot more than that in 80s.

Wouldn't be surprised (know of that scandal, but not the specifics - first use of the "death penalty" by the NCAA, yeah?).

But that's what he was getting at, if UL only gives 100k and hoes, imagine what other programs, ones that get top flite talent, are doing?

For the Youngins, this was it.

The big money was in keeping your mouth shut, one linebacker got $850,000 IN 1986.

Reggie Bush got a new home and a car........ now they covered that up pretty well, used a 3rd Party Ex Con to give the goods. I don't know if it was ever asked where the Ex Con had the ability to give Reggie Bush a House and a Car.

Yeah, 850k is a fuckton of cash. The U had the same kind of thing until the booster flipped and ratted them out. Doled out about $2 million worth of bennies to a ton of players there.

College hoops hasn't had a big scandal in a while, one not involving academic fraud anyway. Will be interesting to watch.

UNC escapes NCAA violations by arguing, We have tremendously easy classes and low standards for everyone, not just athletes.
UNC’s surprising defense focused on its own systemic shortcomings. It said that the problems were so fundamental at the school, it wasn’t actually an NCAA issue, and therefore wasn’t for the NCAA to govern. One estimate said athletes made up about half of the roughly 3,100 students who participated in the classes.

These classes were generally portrayed and shown to be fake for the most part. The NCAA, in its decision, said the classes did not require attendance. The students rarely, “if at all” interacted with a faculty member. The classes typically required one paper where the person who graded it admitted she did not read them in the entirety. These classes, the NCAA said, had “liberal grading.”

I have seen the typical undergrad at UNC Asheville. These are the lowest brow hipsters you will come across. I keep telling you guys we are walking eyes wide open into a new dark age. Universities are the last places you want to look for an education these days. UNC might actually have a good case here. That's just what they do. They offer shitty classes and a graduation diploma for about 30 grand or thereabouts. That's the business model.

Universities have become factories, subsidized by the Federal Student Loan industry.
