Bezos Defies the Retail Apocalypse

Post by Fife » Sun Sep 24, 2017 9:43 am

Whatever you may think of Amazon, there is some food for thought in this piece.

Has Amazon's competition even been created yet?

Amazon is making huge physical bets in defiance of the retail apocalypse

One reason that may be, an anonymous source told CNBC, is that Amazon is seeing online sales go up in areas that have physical stores. Brick-and-mortar stores increase customer awareness of the brand, and it's extra fuel for the Amazon engine.

Here are all the ways that Amazon has expanded into the physical world so far.

It acquired Whole Foods for $13.7 billion.

It struck a partnership with Kohl's, where it will be selling Amazon devices and accepting returns.

It introduced an updated version of the vending machine.

It opened up bookstores.

It started testing an AmazonGo store.

It introduced AmazonFresh pickup.

It set up Amazon Lockers in some grocery stores.

It introduced Amazon Pop-Up stores.

It started offering Amazon Home Services.

And one ring to rule them all.

Like I said, has their competition even been created yet?

Is someone, somewhere, inventing a better mousetrap? I bet somebody is.

What do I know though; maybe 100% of people are wasting their time on whispering in the King's ear to topple evil Bezos.

Dude, Amazon is the most predatory business ever, only possible because a small number of people have obscene amounts of money so that they can hang fire forever. Don't be pointing at the absolute worst of exploitive, monopolistic Capitalism as something I'd want to defend.

I think Walmart is going to challenge Amazon across the board.

Grandpa, tell us again about the retail wars. I like the part where the delivery drones were dueling in the skies.

By all means, spend your energy on closing them down.

I'm sure the USPS can take over their supply chain overnight and make it even better.

That burning you're feeling, that's irony. You must be used to it.

Dude, that's what happened and Walmart closed in with free shipping from carriers who actually deliver and don't lie to your face when they deliberately lose your packages.

Amazon actually has problems that Wal-Mart could actually exploit. Amazon wishes they had Wal-Mart's supply chain.
