Nothing like living in the liberal bubble that surrounds DC. This is all part of the liberal anti-Trump backlash. The city council and mayor of College Park are expected to decide Tuesday whether to allow non-citizens to vote in municipal elections, following a heated discussion among residents over the summer about the issue.
The majority of residents who have submitted comments in the Washington suburb . . . support the amendment to allow green-card holders, undocumented immigrants and student-visa holders to vote in local elections, Mayor Patrick Wojahn said. . . .
...
Prince George’s police were asked to attend the August meeting after council members received harassing calls and emails from people angry about the amendment.
During the meeting, a veteran whose adopted son had recently become a citizen said the amendment “threatens to dilute the meaning of citizenship in our country.” But a junior at U-Md. told the council that she supports the amendment because she wants her friends and professors — who she said have a variety of immigration statuses — to have a voice in the community.
...
Ahead of the August meeting, the majority of College Park residents who wrote to the council opposed expanding voting rights, according to correspondence included in the agenda. But that support has now shifted to favor expanding voting rights, the mayor said.

I understand why shitbag liberals want non-citizens in a political system to have a vote - but how can reasonable leftist honestly justify allowing people from outside the political state to have the ability to affect the rules that govern the people in the state ? Russia doesn't do that, Venezuela doesn't do that, china doesn't do that, Cuba doesn't do that - no leftist country that I know of has ever done that.

What's the point of any sovereignty at this point?
No man's life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session

Democracy is the selection method most suited to liberty because I make my own decisions and my vote is relatively worth the same as yours. Citizenship & practicing liberty aren't the same thing. A bunch of people in an auditorium deciding on whether to turn the heat up or down doesn't depend on the citizenship of the people in the auditorium, just that they are the ones affected by it.
p.s. If your argument is that people outside the auditorium are voting then okay but once someone is inside the auditorium, they're just as important as anyone else.

Well we have to agree to disagree there. When people are allowed into the auditorium that have no business there and start demanding free nikes you'll soon see why this has never once been done before in the entire history of voting.Martin Hash wrote:Democracy is the selection method most suited to liberty because I make my own decisions and my vote is relatively worth the same as yours. Non-Citizens Used to Voteat various points between 1776 and 1926, "40 states and federal territories permitted non-citizens to vote in local, state and even federal elections," and that non-citizens were able to hold public office at various points. After all, in the mid-19th century, one just had to be a white, male property-owner to vote, and so-called "alien suffrage" (granting the right to vote to non-citizens) was seen as a way to lure foreign laborers — white, male ones — to help settle the frontier.
