"Open border has historically been a value of the US, therefore it should be remain/ be so again", seemed to be about the only semi-coherent argument the CNN guy had. Not that was much of an argument, either. I was hoping the guy on stage would have replied something like that not all ideas held by a past USA, make sense or would even be considered moral in the present one.

And yeah, that's pretty standard MHF fare. Low info vs Strawmanning.

That is a fundraising poem on a statue, our borders were never "open." Ellis Island was like the DMV. Sure a lot of people passed through, but many like teenagers not taken it seriously, were sent back.

The US never had open borders...we always had some limitation on immigration.
