New Legislation Proposed to Outlaw Support of BDS

"But now, a group of 43 Senators – 29 Republicans and 14 Democrats – want to implement a law that would make it a felony for Americans to support the international boycott against Israel, which was launched in protest of that country’s decades-old occupation of Palestine. The two primary sponsors of the bill are Democrat Ben Cardin of Maryland and Republican Rob Portman of Ohio. Perhaps the most shocking aspect is the punishment: anyone guilty of violating its prohibitions will face a minimum civil penalty of $250,000, and a maximum criminal penalty of $1 million and 20 years in prison."
Apparently the bill would also outlaw organized boycotts of other US allies, such as Saudi Arabia.

I'm not really sure what to say about this, it almost makes the mind reel. Please take note of who the fuck is supporting this bill in Congress. Trump has had a good couple weeks but if he breaths a single word of support for this its gonna be a real tough pill to swallow. I hate to say it, but it'll probably be progressives like Sanders, Ellison, etc who end up blocking this (although far-Left Gillibrand is apparently supporting it). Whatever though, this bill needs to be stopped by any means necessary.

Would it survive the Supreme Court?

This was always the consequence of the socjust crowd. Once one group gets to criminalize other political opinions, it's only a matter of time before other groups start doing it.

Well, as the ACLU pointed out,

“boycotts to achieve political goals are a form of expression that the Supreme Court has ruled are protected by the First Amendment’s protections of freedom of speech, assembly, and petition,” and that such bills “place unconstitutional conditions on the exercise of constitutional rights.”

Seems to me that they're correct. What's appalling is that no one in Congress has the balls to state the obvious.

Oh c'mon, what's wrong with Antifa? Nice bunch of folks in black hoodies and black masks, dark sunglasses, carrying clubs, bike locks, and other weapons including flammable things they use to smash/burn up public property and attack people because people are saying words or carrying signs they don't like.

Eugene Volokh's analysis. He concludes that the proposed amendments do raise First Amendment concerns relating to political speech.

Seems correct, Congress can pass a law saying any boycott will not carry any force of law and certainly any state institutions engaging in a boycott would be breaking a correct and constitutional law but crying pissing and moaning about said policy, that is plain first amendment.
