The problem with the EU and NATO is that the officials are making these huge decisions for the people who live in their client countries on a completely unelected and arbitrary basis.
Nope,

The analogy stands quite well. If the EU decides on a foreign policy, that stands. And the EU can sometimes do that.

If there wouldn't be an EU, I can guarantee that my country wouldn't be now having any sanctions with Russia now. We'd be neutral and basically wouldn't give a shit about any sanctions. We would just hope "that Ukraine and Russia can solve there differences peacefully".

Furthermore, in NATO the US is that decides things. NATO members just can decide what they contribute or if they contribute anything.

So you guys have given up your nationhood now? It doesn't bother you that you're now being ruled by some unelected committee in Belgium?

Our states haven't been sovereign since they were British colonies. Despite all the bullshit that comes along with the power that the Founders gave to the states, including our Civil War, the Federal government reigns supreme and the Federal government is what makes us the United States

NATO is a disaster for everyone involved

So when US politicians and yourself speak of "the federal government", you think they're really speaking about the EU? ;) You realize that a federation is also "a single country", right? Russia is "a single" country, but also a federation, so is Germany, and so is the United States.. And no, the EU is not (yet) a federation, it's still more of a confederation.

We are in fact a federation. Should have been a confederation, though.
