The program ended prematurely when relatives became suspicious, then started complaining.

Yep. Many intellectuals in Britain and the US were all about eugenics. HG Wells, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Hellen Keller, and George Bernard Shaw all defended the practice to some extent. There were also those like Ernst Haeckel in Germany who were actually pacifists because they believed that war would cause the bravest, strongest, and most altruistic to die, leaving behind the genetic undesirables. Many scientists in Wiemar Germany also supported the practice, and found it extremely easy to align their beliefs with the new regime after 1933.

No STEM. Although any of it would probably have been more lucrative than political science or political economy.

I tried to learn programming, which I can do, but it is so damn uninteresting it's almost impossible for me to do. Does that make sense? Don't get me wrong, learning is still hard, I'm still a mathematical klutz. But with Poli Sci, or perhaps political economy, I enjoy the subject and can see me actually making a living somehow from it. Thankfully, being rich has never been a goal.

You've got my sympathy on the head spinning. A few times I studied so long that the actual text started to change into day glow colors. When the sentences started to hover just off the page, I called it a morning and when to sleep. I should have been scared but lack of sleep...
