Sooo, you guys think Science is a gay SJW thing or what?

Or scared that SJW people are taking over/have taken over science?

Makes me wonder how many here have an academic background or degree.

The latter.

Doc is majoring in engineering and StA has a stem related degree iirc. I think fife is just a smooth talker and passed a BAR exam somehow...

Also California has a useless degree and a good job. He won the lottery.

Okee is studying for his mechanical engineering and daralon is studying for some kind of information technology degree because he wants a good job and doesn't want to work hard enough to major in computer science or electrical engineering

Fairly certain deo has a law degree, flip has major an English degree(?) Martin bought all of his degrees from China, commiecatface has an associates in women studies.... another guy who a beavis avatar has a law degree and there are at least a few others with various degrees including yourself and the rest of the Viking horde.

And then there's me who has an advanced degree in general shit headedry.

Neither. What has happened is there is a "march for science" that somehow got co-opted into the autistic screeching SJW sphere. Its a repeat of the Women's March at this point and has nothing to do with science.

Its really more like how the fundamentalist Christians co-opted the Right back in the day and made conservative politics inseparable from fundamentalist religion. The Left has just replaced religion with "science" and is doing the same thing now. Shit, a lot of lefties are looking at "science" as a form of religion.

The thing is that the academic world typically looks far more left-wing, atheist and SJW than it actually is. Let's remember that doctors and lawyers etc. are academic too. It's just typical that the SJW crowd simply is the most vocal in the academic world and nobody puts any limits on them, they can have their fun hippie moment of improving the World before they start their actual well paid careers as doctors, engineers, and mid-level managers.

So it became a march against "the evils of the anti-science guy Trump and all that Trump stands for"? I guess that can happen quite easily...

The left has always had the desire to harness "science" to it's needs and has wanted to look at itself as being more pro-science. Of course it's humbug, actually a socialist system puts far more limitations to scientific research than any Bible-thumping Creationist right-winger can influence the right. After all, Basically central planning has to start from an idea that the economy is a controllable machine or entity that you can engineer.

It's annoying when some group tries to own something that isn't actually it's own. Another example that comes to my mind neo-nazis that want to portray themselves as patriots and true defenders of a country, while actually being totally against what that country (usually a Republic) stands for.

Please expand upon this before we derail the thread with a spurious response I almost posted.

I agree with the rest of your post largely though. I think everyone would.

OK, take a basically universally accepted thing like science or in my other example, patriotism, the love towards your country, and there might be groups that want to portray themselves as being the "real" defenders of this idea because of their own fantastic ideology. They simply want to dominate the positive "brand", which actually is supported by a lot of people that disagree with them.

Yet, the way I think about patriotism is that somebody who loves his country is a person who loves the actual nation what it is now, even if one can naturally desire improvements to the present. But I wouldn't call someone a patriot who basically is against the foundations of that nation (starting from things like it's form of government, it's constitution and so on). And just like with those who want to portray social engineering as "science", I'm not thrilled about those who believe that a mixture of fascism and socialism is the way to defend nations that basically are republics (or constitutional monarchies) and justice states.

ssu, unless I missed your point, you answered your own question. It's annoying when people who by my estimation are barely literate take up a "cause", a cause that I and other board members are involved in, as a vehicle to push their politics on everyone. Science doesn't give a fuck about the patriarchy, social justice, or colonialism. The cuts made were the results of politics, science is gonna keep on rolling regardless. Besides, the only people holding back science are these people, that want to force schools to accept kids that can't get in on merit alone. Furthermore, if they weren't such lunatics, Trump wouldn't have gotten into office in the first place to make those cuts. So yeah, fuck these guys.
