We need serious funding for research into neurochemistry, and patient therapies..
And research into nerve repair, regeneration, maybe even transplant technology. Can you imagine nanotechnology that can repair or replace damaged nerves? With all the people living for many years post chemo and radiation, neuropathy is increasing and causing so much pain to so many. Diabetes is epidemic, with concurrent nerve damage. The applications of that type of research could relieve tremendous suffering, and as a positive side effect help stem opiod addiction. There's so much I'm sure I'm missing as well.

Sound like something you want to put into your troubled child?
SSRI's get a bad rap. Now for children I think a good conservative estimate of 75% is over prescribed but for those that really need them the side effects are a reasonable risk. As for the connection between SSRI's and violence, we have a very vulnerable group here and still low number of patients committing these crimes. Lipitor or atorvasatin is a statin used to lower cholesterol it is the most prescribed drug in America. I assure you find the crimes by people on statins and you'll be wont to make a connection to those drugs and their nominal side effects as well.

Sounds like we're creeping into the 'Ambien Defense' territory.

I experienced it. For some people, ambien can be bad news.

Do you think SSRI's could have some unexpected interaction with other medication?

For example, not a school shooter, but Miriam Carey was apparently taking both risperidone and escitalopram. She was the woman who said Obama was speaking to her in her mind and drove to DC with her child and drove around like crazy until cops shot and killed her.

edit: certainly, StA. A bunch of people are on SSRI's and there are very few of these bizarre events.

Statistically speaking, clubby has a valid point. It would be very difficult to avoid confounding variables here.
