Organ transplants surge in B.C. because of fentanyl-overdose deaths, doctor says

The recent problem with fentanyl overdoses is good news for some people
While officials at B.C. Transplant have been loath to draw conclusions based on the first six weeks of 2017, Landsberg said fentanyl is a “distinct and significant” factor.

“I would say they represent more than 25 per cent of donors now. I have a (case) call today involving fentanyl and I had one yesterday. I even had one last weekend while I was on a chairlift in Whistler…. It’s pretty dramatic.”

Deaths from drug overdoses are now the leading cause of unnatural death in B.C., far surpassing motor vehicle crashes.

Darwinian market forces, solving problems the old fashioned way.

You can have my liver when I croak, enjoy the whiskey sours, and all the tax revenues you've made off it too. /shrugs

The biggest drug pushers in the country, by far and away, is the public sector unions, who knew?

"Blah-blah-blah, fentanyl!" Yeah, whatever, drug addiction is such a terrible thing, until they figure out how to tax it that is, then its just another revenue stream for the teachers unions, police and firefighters, oh and don't forget the fuckin' librarians, cause you know we're all hanging out down at that shiny new library to nowhere...

Speaking of opioid revenue, something is happening that should concern non-addicts. NJ is about to pass a law restricting pain medication to 5 days (other states already have similar restrictions, just not as severe). Stitches don't come out until 10-14 days after surgery, which is usually how long post-surgical prescriptions are written for. Surgeons have been issuing dire warnings to no avail, because opioid prescriptions can't be called in or picked up by another person and many of their patients aren't supposed to drive for at least a week. But there are going to be lots of specialist co-pays for that extra visit. Could be over a hundred dollars just to get a normal post-op painkiller, never mind all the suffering that will happen because many people can't afford to pay the extra money after already paying for surgery.
