I am just curious how far he wants to take this suicide pact.
When the gods blot out the sun, we'll have our answer. Until then, let the sacrifices continue.

It just kind of feels like people have some really unrealistic ideas about how applicable our social contract is to a significant number of humans on this planet.

Islam needs to reform. Problem is, the world's not going to passively wait X number of years (and X number of human lives) for that to happen. That's the basic dilemma.

Streamed live 4 hours agoPresident Trump's National Security Advisor, Gen. Michael Flynn, interrupted the White House press briefing yesterday to deliver a statement that the US is putting Iran "on notice" after what he claimed were "destabilizing" acts by the Iranian government. Was he right? What will the US do?

Paul is right that attacking Iran will definitely provoke Russia, but the Russia-Iranian relationship isn't excatly friendly, either.

Russia would probably see an American attack on Iran as another wrench thrown into their efforts of expanding their influence in the ME. Not WW3 stuff, of course, but it would abruptly end the supposed "friendly" relationship Trump has with Putin.

It's going to be interesting to see how the relationship between Russia and the US develops over the next couple of years. I'm just glad we've calmed down the ratcheting up of tensions with Russia that was happening with Obama and Clinton.

Don't forget China in this geopol equation either.

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO)

Iran is a SCO observer state, and Russia has been pushing for their membership status for quite some time..

Rudaw - China refuses Iran’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization despite Russia’s insistence (6/247/16)
“The Russian position is clear in its support of initiating the SCO admission process [for Tehran] without delays, if possible,” a special SCO envoy of the Russian President Vladimir Putin, Bakhtiyor Khakimov, told reporters on Thursday.

“We failed to reach an agreement with our colleagues this time, but the work continues,” he added.

“Russia’s position is definitely in favour of launching the process of Iran’s admission to the SCO without dragging it out as much as possible,” Khakimov explained.

The SCO is an economic, political and military alliance founded back in 2001 by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan – all of whom are full members of the group.
