I suspect Sheriff Clarke has received numerous credible death threats by now because of his high-profile stance against the far left and criminal culture in black communities.
From law enforcement's perspective, they likely have a high-profile sheriff with ongoing investigations into various threats, and they have to respond whenever he perceives a threat. He could genuinely have misinterpreted the man's gesture, and combined with a climate of leftist violence and intimidation, his default reaction would be to report it. At which case police are definitely going to close in and question this individual.
It just doesn't seem like an abuse of power at this point. Escorting him out of the building without a chance to go to Starbucks does not rise to the level worthy of outrage either.
