That old cow is just another loser to the First Rule, it appears.

The explicit setup for her "joke," its entire premise, is hatred.

The whole room laughed.
Clearly, in context it was funny.
Much funnier than ''do you want to gas the Jews?''
Doesn't mean it was acceptable.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

"Context"

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4016850/a ... rne-grove/
How common are acid attacks in the UK?
The UK has one of the highest rates of acid attacks per capita in the world, according to Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI).

It claims the country does not have "tight controls on acid sales" or "legislation specific to acid attacks".

ASTI's figures, quoting the police, reveal the number of recorded attacks has increased nearly three-fold from 228 recorded crimes in 2012 to 601 attacks in 2016.

With more than 400 incidents reported in the six months, 2017 was widely regarded as the worst ever year for acid attacks.

Unlike in other countries, where 80 per cent of acid attacks are against women, in the UK most victims are men, ASTI says.

Gang disputes are said to be behind the rise in acid attacks in London and other British cities.

Yes, one must simply understand the context to understand the visceral reaction.

That reminds me of something written by my favorite socialist. (Substitute "battery acid" for "sledge-hammer" and the context will shine right through.)

The horrible thing about the Two Minutes Hate was not that one was obliged to act a part, but, on the contrary, that it was impossible to avoid joining in. Within thirty seconds any pretence was always unnecessary. A hideous ecstasy of fear and vindictiveness, a desire to kill, to torture, to smash faces in with a sledge-hammer, seemed to flow through the whole group of people like an electric current, turning one even against one's will into a grimacing, screaming lunatic."

Anyway, "funny" doesn't have anything to do with "acceptable," right? Since when does a hardcore bolshie let "funny" override "unacceptable?"

Boris is up to his old tricks again.
At a rally holding up a smoked kipper and going into a rant about how the producer in the Isle of Mann was being forced by EU regulations to deliver it to his customers in a refrigerated condition. Whined on about the extra cost to the producer and how EU health and safety standards won't be able to regulate British producers once we are "out".

Of course, he forgot to mention that the Isle of Mann isn't even in the EU or that it makes no difference whether you are or not because you still have to comply with EU rules in or out if you want to trade with them.

Oh well, at least he didn't write it on the side of a bus this time.
That's progress of a kind I suppose.

You don't have to comply with EU rules when not trading with them though, which is a big boon. So it does make a difference whether you are in or not.

If the EU wants to shoot themselves in the foot with silly regulations in order to trade with them, that hurts the EU a lot more than it hurts Britain.

It gets worse.
The EU has responded by pointing out there are no EU temperature control rules on smoked fish deliveries. The rule requiring kippers to be posted on an ice pillow are purely British.
Brought into being to combat an outbreak of listeria.
A rule the EU is considering implementing themselves.
Be interesting to know how many other ''crazy rules on health and safety'' originated in Britain.
Maybe the other EU members are saying ''thank fuck for Brexit, we won't have to put up with any more of their health and safety gone mad''.

Directionally correct, but the details are wrong, so the media nitpicks the wrong details and falls for the trap of focusing attention on the issues that Bojo wants the attention on. Bojo been watching Trump I see.

Or, total lack of preparation leading him to talk nonsense about something he knows nothing about. Yup, been watching Trump alright.

ps. I love the fact that when it's Tommy Robinson (NHRN) spreading lies he's a journalist but when it's actual journalists exposing lies/fuck-ups it's ''the media'' somehow directing the public. Fucking hilarious.
