I wouldn't say the arming of Taiwan is an economic issue for the Americans, if it was, they'd be arming Taiwan to the teeth, which at this juncture they are not, arming Taiwan is more of a leverage play against the Chinese when the Chinese rattle sabres, America essentially plays Taiwan as one of its chess pieces in the China Seas.

That would certainly do it, but the issue is less about America giving Taiwan nuclear weapons to incite a cross straight crisis which would drag America in by default, the issue is more Taiwan acquiring nuclear weapons by their own means, outside of American control.

America already has nuclear weapons in the China Seas, the issue is who else is going to get them, without America's leave to do so.
