The ironic thing about all this is that it was literally "muh roads" which allowed, and eventually led to the manifestation of ISP monopolies inlcuding other types of services that use public roads to run their infrastructure. A sip of some delicious Flint tap water anyone? Uncle Sam owns the roads, Uncle Sam gets to choose to whom he sells monopoly rights to run lines down them.Smitty-48 wrote:The Commies are on the march now, it's Net Leftstalingrad, you're caught in the kessel. Unspooling a roll of toilet paper takes me almost 2 hours. I can't even imagine how hard it would be to unspool a cable. Those ISPs are having some serious trouble with, and my hat is off to them for trying!

It's exceedingly more expensive to unspool a roll of cable. Fiber is preferable.heydaralon wrote:Unspooling a roll of toilet paper takes me almost 2 hours. I think I still visit this forum because people with principles still post here. People with principles in this day and age is an exceedingly rare thing, more it's like "well team red did this, so I'm ok with it." Or team blue, or whatever team. Someone making a stand on principle makes me happy inside.

Uncle Sam never said it was telecommunications tho, the internet was never the phone company, and that's why it was so successful, Obama's assertion of "telecommunications" would have been the original sin which killed the internet in its crib.tue4t wrote:The ironic thing about all this is that it was literally "muh roads" which allowed, and eventually led to the manifestation of ISP monopolies inlcuding other types of services that use public roads to run their infrastructure. Actually classifying it as a Title II utility meant it was a lot like how other utilities like water, gas, electricity is run. So, a Title II is basically an essential service to have our society to function. Especially since more and more people are working from home, running their business, and also taking classes.Smitty-48 wrote:Uncle Sam never said it was telecommunications tho, the internet was never the phone company, and that's why it was so successful, Obama's assertion of "telecommunications" would have been the original sin which killed the internet in its crib.tue4t wrote:The ironic thing about all this is that it was literally "muh roads" which allowed, and eventually led to the manifestation of ISP monopolies inlcuding other types of services that use public roads to run their infrastructure. Re: Net Neutrality
I understand that, and that is not what the internet was intended to be, and that was never the case until two years ago, but suddenly people like you are saying the internet cannot survive without it, when the internet would never have come about in the first place, if people like you had been put in charge of it.Penner wrote:Actually classifying it as a Title II utility meant it was a lot like how other utilities like water, gas, electricity is run. Explain how Net Neutrality would've killed the Internet? Because I have pointed out why NN would've saved the Internet but your side never really explain how ending Net Neutrality would make things better.Smitty-48 wrote:I understand that, and that is not what the internet was intended to be, and that was never the case until two years ago, but suddenly people like you are saying the internet cannot survive without it, when the internet would never have come about in the first place, if people like you had been put in charge of it.Penner wrote:Actually classifying it as a Title II utility meant it was a lot like how other utilities like water, gas, electricity is run. If it's essential, even if we can't pay for it, should it be allowed to be turned off?Penner wrote:Actually classifying it as a Title II utility meant it was a lot like how other utilities like water, gas, electricity is run. The answer to that has to be yes, especially all utilities can be shut off, even if they are necessary to survive.
Calling internet conductivity as a Title II is useless because even necessary utilities to survive can be turned off at a moments notice.
If it's going to be something that is required, then the internet companies will be forced to give everyone a form of internet for free we know that won't happen though, right?
