Not sure what you are arguing here. The government took no part in this decision, it was the medical profession backed by the courts.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

The courts are part of government...

I'm saying that shouldn't have been their call.

If they were needlessly extending the life of some burn victim in constant, terrible pain, I would understand it.

In this case, they spared a brain dead person from further brain deadness. The state excercised power without a good justification.

The European court of human rights is certainly not controlled by the UK govt' and they had the last say in this case and made their decision based on the best interests of the child.

The child has no interests... he's brain dead.

And yea, good point about it being EU court of human rights.

However if it has jurisdiction over U.K. cases, it represents a form of government for the people involved.

In England, the doctors literally are the government. It's a very dangerous cocktail you guys created, regardless of the incidental circumstances of this case.

First off the child certainly does have interests and even rights as a human being, brain dead or not. Because it cannot speak for itself others have to represent those interests for him.
The European court of human rights is an institution interested only in justice for individuals or groups they are not a part of nor do they represent government interests.
They are not a politicalised judiciary like the American model.

Oh, really? They aren't agents of the government?

You can't snow the snowman on this one. I am trapped in socialized medicine hell. They just got busted murdering veterans for bonus checks and NOBODY was held accountable.

Government doesn't police itself.

If you say so. I'm very ignorant of them. I don't even know how their appointed. Though I'll take your word for it that the people doing the appointing don't let their biases affect who they appoint.

I guess we have to agree to disagree. I don't think that the court should have had jurisdiction over what is done to a body without a functioning brain and you do. Nowhere else to go with it really.
