Reminds me of this telling ad:

Trump can't really do anything with requesting/changing contracts. It's all up to Congress.
True, but with a majority in both sections of congress, it may not be too hard to imagine them doing so.
Still there will be hold outs from his party because of the pork money.

Pressure is a wonderful thing, and fat burns when it's held over the fire...

Trump seems to know how to use the bully pulpit to get his way, he has already proven adept at doing so, even when he has no other power to leverage because he isn't even if office yet.

If this place is a supposed bell curve of the current US political divide then his supporters are not going to like it and instead would also support the other Rs in their attempts to stop altering contracts.

Getting mad at better deals doesn't bear much political fruit. Some members of the GOP getting mad at Trump about getting better deals that keep jobs in America, simply because he did it piece meal, are not going to cut into Trump's support much at all. The whole picking winners and losers in economy thing was never an effective counter-argument for the GOP with voters anyway, just ask Ron Paul.

Once you slap all the new bells and whistles on the Block III Advanced Super Hornet, the price is going to be comparable, most of the price of the F-35 is in the sensors and the software, not the airframe.

At which point you'd being paying close to F-35 price, with no VLO and no way to add it later.

Trump is just pretending to shop around so he gets a better deal on the F-35, that's all he's doing. He's not actually going to just go with the supped up F-18, it's a negotiation tactic.

A-10 is a single role platform, can't replace your F-16's and F/A-18's with A-10's.

I would guess that Boeing has already called his bluff.
