That is not true. There are lots of jobs that allow for it.
My mother built a huge business in her retirement she recently sold that hired millennials to do just that.
My neighbor works from home as customer support.
I will grant you that most of those jobs won't pay as much as you would like by themselves, but if you are homesteading you can probably make it work. You need some kind of cash crop to produce a surplus of and sell.
